As the cloud becoming more the project management platform of choice, the market for cloud-based project management tools is heating up. So why are these tools becoming so popular?
In today’s fast-paced business environment there is an ever pressing need to be able stay on top of what’s going on. Organization and having easy and immediate access to information is the best way to stay on top of things. This is ever apparent when it comes to project management. So, I decided to take a look at several of these tools to see why they’ve become so popular of late.
Easy To Set Up – Most of these social project management tools are relatively easy to set up. For instance, most place only a limited need for IT support to get them up and running. This makes set up cheap, easy and pretty quick.
Relatively Cheap – The majority of these tools are freemium, allowing you to access the majority of its features for free. Yes, the “full” version of these tools are more robust and there is a cost associated with this, however, when you do decide it’s time to step up its still only around the same amount you’d pay for a few coffees a month.
Easy to learn – Over the last several years the technology behind these tools has progressed to the point where they are not only stable but also easy to pick up and get started. Advances in UI makes it pretty easy to learn how to use them, which brings me to my next point – adoption.
Easy to get adoption – An often overlooked, but very important aspect of these tools. I believe that ease of adoption is something that should be seriously considered with every new piece to technology brought into an organization. Because these tools are in fact so easy to learn it is a lot less painful convincing others to adopt them. This is important because these tools only really work once critical mass is achieved. So the easier they are to set up and get adoption, the better.
When laid out, it really comes as no surprise that these tools are quickly becoming so popular. Personally, I think the reason why these have become so popular is because they offer this killer combo of ease of use, installation, price and adoption. It is one thing to be able to offer a solid tool at a competitive price, nothing new there. It’s an entirely different thing to be able to offer a solution so simple that you can quickly and easily get mass adoption, and that’s what these tools offer.
