How did you hear about Mindjet?
I first heard about Mindjet from a work colleague who recommended it to me. I got myself a licence, realised it was just what we’d been looking for and now the whole agency uses it.
What do you primarily use it for?
I’m responsible for overseeing all of the business’ commercial activities, which, as a digital marketing agency, covers a wide range of specialist areas including planning, creative, account management and digital development, to name but a few. Being able to keep track of activity when a vast number of tasks are being carried out simultaneously is vital, as I have to be on call 24/7 and able to answer questions with ease at a time that suits our clients. This is where Mindjet comes into its own.
Having a tool that provides a central hub through which all information and updates can be stored and shared with the whole team is essential. With access to the latest drafts of documents, quotes from research agencies and updates on tasks, I can ensure the correct information is communicated. It also shows everyone’s tasks and priorities. I can see who is working on what, what their progress is and when an update is due for the client. It’s also really useful for taking down notes in meetings and creative brainstorming sessions. Rather than jotting things down on paper and then typing it up later, I can get my thoughts straight on to my computer and into our shared system.
What is your favorite feature?
Its core feature of visualising information helps me to no end. Before Mindjet, I would regularly find myself lost in a sea of notes and lengthy project plans trying to decipher what was relevant to me and then prioritise tasks. According to the theory of left-brain or right-brain dominance, a person who is “left-brained” is often said to be more logical, analytical and objective, whilst a person who is “right-brained” is said to be more intuitive and visual. I’m a typical “right-brainer” in that I’m a creative and would much rather learn about a subject by watching a two minute video on it. Mindjet helps me to organise data relevant to me in a visually engaging way.
Is there anything the tool helps with that was unexpected?
Aside from all the obvious uses in the office, Mindjet helped my mum to plan my sister Flo’s wedding (see the map below). As every married couple knows, this is a big project. She used a Mindjet map to project manage the entire event from start to finish – from brainstorming ideas and selecting suppliers through to tracking what needs to be done, when and by whom! I’m happy to say the big day went off without a hitch!

Here at Mindjet, we know the value of sharing ideas. It’s just like philosopher Michel de Montaigne said way back in the 1500s: “It is good to rub and polish our brain against that of others.” The Mindjet User Spotlight series aims to help that little endeavor along by bringing your stories and experiences with Mindjet to the forefront. If you’ve got one to share, don’t be shy! Give us a shout.
